(a) You are to enter into the dream and to access or attain the dream experiencing.
(b) You are to undergo the full transformation into “being” the dream experiencing within the context of the dream, earlier life scenes, and recent life scenes.
(c) You are to have a taste and a sample of what life can be like from now on when you are ready and willing to be and to behave as this new dream experiencing.
Explicit guidelines and detailed examples show people who want to work on their dreams how to engage in the process. This involves recording dreams, making connections between dreams and waking life, identifying peaks of experiencing, entering the dream world to fully be the experiencing, trying out that behavior in the therapy room, and finally being the dream experiencing in the real world. Alvin R. Mahrer, Ph.D., is professor of psychology at the University of Ottawa.
