The rare first edition of a book of love poems and plays, containing 16 emblematic illustrations in the first part, and the only edition in 4to format, the later editions are all in 12mo.

Ian Harmensz. Krul (ca. 1602-1646) was a Dutch songwriter, playwright and tradesman in iron and books. He wrote amorous, moralizing and dramatic poetry and plays, combining music and rhetoric in a harmonious manner. His poetic style differed from that of the great Vondel, being less flowery, more naive. Several of his plays depict the shepherd's life.
A collection of Krul’s works was published by the author in 1644 in a folio edition, called Pampiere Wereld, later to be followed by a 4to edition in 1681. In that collection 17 illustrations from the Minne-spiegel were included. In gathering 2L on the verso side the frisket has not been use, showing the fill material in the

- Condition: Waterstain. Small tear (repaired) on p. 97 and 101. Two small chips of paper missing p. 33 and 139. One small wormhole through engraving p. 216. Little burned spot at p. 241. Vellum cleaned. Else a good copy.
