This book opens the door on the enchanted world of miniature silver toys which were used to furnish the doll houses of past generations and reflect the furnishings and customs of our ancestors. The author also introduces the reader to the rules and regulations governing the hallmarks silversmiths had to use in the various cities that were major centres of production for the toys: Amsterdam, Utrecht, London, Birmingham and others, and provides information on hitherto unidentified hallmarks.

Marks arranged by country, followed by an analytical index (marks grouped by similar visual characteristics). International Hallmarks on Silver collected by Tardy is commonly know as The Tardy Hallmark Book. This is the English-language edition (most Tardy books are in French).
