n Burma, the Rohingya have been abused, excluded and denied the most basic of human rights, including citizenship. As refugees in Bangladesh and beyond, they have been neglected, exploited and forced to exist in the darkest margins of society. Persecuted and stateless, they are the unwanted and the unwelcome. Exiled to Nowhere: Burma's Rohingya is a photography book by American-born photographer Greg Constantine. The book exposes the stories and plight of one of the world's most oppressed and forgotten people and also provides evidence of their sheer courage to stay alive whatever the ground beneath their feet. It is the second book from Constantine's long-term project, Nowhere People.
Greg Constantine is an American-born documentary photographer/author who works on long-term project focusing on human rights abuse, inequality and injustice. A self-taught photographer, he changed careers while in his early 30s. For the past ten years he has dedicated his work to one-long term project called Nowhere People. The project documents the impact the denial of citizenship and statelessness has on ethnic communities in eighteen countries around the world. The project has resulted in a series of three, interrelated books: Kenya's Nubians: Then & Now, Exiled To Nowhere: Burma's Rohingya (Notable Photo Book of the Year by PDN Magazine, The Independent and finalist for IPA Photo Book Asia Award) and Nowhere People (Notable Photo Book of the Year by PDN Magazine, Top Ten Photo Books of 2015 by Mother Jones).
Exhibitions of his work have been held in over 35 cities around the world including: NYC, Geneva, London, Tokyo, Brussels, Istanbul, Bangkok, Jakarta, Belgrade, Budapest, Kuala Lumpur, Dublin, Nairobi & Washington DC.
