Meer info
In 1977, in response to a request for news for the tenth-renuion report of his Harvard claas, Toby Marotta - out of what he calls 'an almost devilish impulse to show everyone that the best and the brightest could also be the gayest' - wrote that he was a homosexual.
As soon as that class report was circulated, he began to hear from former classmates eager to let him known that they, too, were gay.
Curious to learn their stories - of life at Harvard and life since - he went in search of them. He traveled across the country both to find out how homosexual undergraduates of his own generation had matured and to become more knowledgeable about the part Harvard had played in shaping them.
In 'Sons of Harvard' he presents these tales of gay life as told by ten Harvard College graduates to an eleventh, himself, a Harvard-trained social scientist who explains how they reflect the progress of the gay liberation movement and contempory cultural evolution.
The result of this oddysey is a pioneering exploration of attitues and customs typical of contemporary gay men and the gaining of a new perspective on that whole generation of American young people who came of age in the 1960s.
