Intensely personal and objectively restrained, Ristelhueber embraces the scars of human existence, whether through the image of an undefined landscape crippled by bombing or the peeling wallpaper found in a family home. She transcends the turmoil and specificity of a location and, instead, creates art without limits of time and identity through photographs and installations that are haunting, provocative, and telling. Details of the World is the most comprehensive anthology of Ristelhueber's career, including a selection from all her major projects and numerous - and previously unpublished - images. Recognized for her own books that poignantly complement her work, she conceived of and designed this volume to accompany the major survey of her career organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. With an informative text by exhibition curator Cheryl Brutvan that examines Ristelhueber's work and obsessions, this is not only the most thorough consideration of one of France's most noteworthy contemporary artists, but also an art object in itself.
